Ajar Foundation
this was started by a few very dedicated indonesian students in the Bay Area.
the goal is to form a support network for education in indonesia, at all
levels. as economic and political hardship gets worse, education is one
of the first victims. the lack of indonesian academic tradition is the
number one cause of poverty, backwardsness, and inability to progress.
for decades the indonesian people have been taught to think that they can't
do anything by themselves.
there are several aspects to this organization:
- scholarship funds
- educational material donation
- mentoring program
AIS-MIT Outreach Program
the goal is similar to that of Ajar, but here we focus on students who are
specifically interested in higher education abroad.
Mentornet
from their website:
MentorNet is The
E-Mentoring Network for Women in Engineering and Science.
We pair women who are studying engineering or science at one
of our participating colleges or universities with professional
scientists and engineers working in industry, and help them form
email based mentoring relationships. MentorNet
is a nonprofit initiative sponsored through grants.
male mentors are welcome too!
